Раздел международной финансовой статистики Международного валютного фонда (International Monetary Fund). Основные концепции и методологические рекомендации построения индексов цен изложены в специальном издании МВФ: IFS Supplement on Price Statistics. Supplement Series №12, International Monetary Fund, 1986. В этом документе дано описание преимуществ и недостатков построения индексов цен, используемых в качестве измерителя с учетом конъюнктуры внутреннего и международного рынка. В международных методологических рекомендациях отмечается, что статистика цен как финансовый инструмент (financial instrument) имеет широкое практическое применение. Она используется для корректировки уровня заработной платы в связи с удорожанием стоимости жизни, определения степени обоснованности установления официальных (банковских) валютных курсов (real effective exchange rates), выявления эффективности финансовых программ, экономической оценки ряда других аспектов деловой активности.
